Song-writing and singing
with children and teenagers

.
Discovering songs made during Phil's after school singing/
writing and recording clubs

Overall Aims:
To promote self confidence and individual expression.
To develop an understanding of group singing and harmony.
To bring an awareness of world music.
To learn how to use an instrument to write a song.
To write the melody and lyrics for our own song, then record it.
To have fun.

Always Bee You is a charity based in Ware that meets the needs of people with learning disabilities who are aiming for independence, reduced isolation, self worth and better health and well being.
I was commissioned to support group members to write a song as they had requested more creative and musical activities.

This is the emotive song we made. Summer 2023

"We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the song and the way
Phil was able to enable our group members to express themselves creatively.
He is a skilled musician and has the ability to gently guide the group to come up with their own ideas
to create a unique and personal experience.

A few of the singers had particularly difficult weeks regarding their mental health
and to see the joy in their faces about their achievements regarding the song was truly special.

Phil has changed lives for the better and given a voice to those who aren’t always heard.
I can’t thank him enough for that!

The belief that you can achieve is so important especially when you have been told all your life that you can’t.

Our group have made closer friendships because of the song writing course
and they would like to continue being creative together as a result.

Thank you"

Jo Radcliffe - group leader and manager - Always Bee You

Stroothy Robbins 0.00 -3.46.  - The Tu Tu's. A strange and moving song about a woman living alone.
Written by a group of five primary school children in Brighton.
One microphone, one laptop, one morning, a lot of encouragement and some willing creativity from the children.

Holy Streets
3.48- 5.21 An edgy tune performed by six Brighton primary school children

I Wanna Be 5.22-8.43. - Friction. Six young lads at a Brighton school - their dreams for the future.

"Phil has run three songwriting clubs at St Martin's Junior School, Brighton with groups of six to eight pupils in Key Stage 2.
He is reliable, musical and energetic and has empathy and patience with children. He works hard to ensure they are happy and has produced some lovely CD's with the children's own work. I would highly recommend him, to any school interested in running a songwriting club."  - Alex Wingham, Headmaster.

"Phil ran music technology sessions at Bishop David Brown School, Woking, Surrey and was absolutely inspirational with the students. They benefitted enormously from his musical knowledge. I hope he will be back again next year."- Mike Costa, Assistant Head Teacher, Head of Performing Arts
