I worked with adults and children with learning difficulties
as a care worker
from 2012-2016
and found playing an acoustic guitar
helped create a calmer atmosphere.
Now I takes my guitar into assisted living homes
to play and sing popular soul/folk songs
from across four generations - tunes by Bill Withers, Bob Marley,
The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel,
Rihanna, and Johnny Cash etc.
I aim to promote a feeling of well being, while encouraging
as much of an inclusive sing-a long as possible.
"Phil has visited our young people at Chailey twice now and both times have been a huge success.
He is very encouraging with our young people and their support workers
and allows them to take their time, especially if they are really enjoying a particular singalong.
Phil brings instruments for everyone, and this really helps engage our young people.
He'll allow them time to do a verse with just the percussion and his guitar
and this always goes down well with them.
I have had really positive feedback from our young people and support workers,
and they have already asked when he's next in.
I am hoping to get Phil back in a couple of months' time for a big group session
including our young adults and hub users.
Phil is a professional, extremely reliable and it’s a pleasure having him with us."

"Phil has a terrific voice and is warm and friendly.
It was great to see our residents
wanting to join in with him."

Sometimes I play Spanish/blues influenced instrumental guitar music
to create a warm background atmosphere
